AS MANY women will tell you, a light silk dress and windy conditions can be a recipe for disaster.
One who can attest to that is 38-year-old model Petra Nemcova.
Nemcova attended this week’s screening of Spike Lee’s latest film Blackkklansman at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Czech native wore a dress with a plunging neckline and a sky-high split (as is the fashion at Cannes these days) and then came unstuck as the wind blew her dress up, revealing her nude underpants.
Nemcova’s big reveal is the latest in a string of eye-popping wardrobe choices at France’s famous film festival.
Earlier this week model Kendall Jenner sashayed down the red carpet in a see-through ensemble.
Someone else raising eyebrows on the red carpet for a different reason was actor Kristen Stewart, who was attending the same Blackkklansman screening as Nemcova.
Stewart, who often shuns Hollywood convention and blazes her own trail, decided she had had enough of her high heels on the Cannes red carpet. So she simply whipped them off and powered on in bare feet, to the bemusement of those standing around her.
There is speculation that this was Stewart’s way of protesting Cannes’ high heels-only rule on the red carpet.
She commented on it last year to The Hollywood Reporter saying “If you’re not asking guys to wear heels and a dress, you can’t ask me either.”
Cannes has tried to regain some dignity this year, after past years have been highlighted with revealing dresses and wardrobe malfunctions.
This year the organisers have tried to ban celebs taking selfies on the iconic steps in a bid to reclaim some decorum, saying they “tarnish the quality of the red carpet”.
We wish them luck with that.
